Who can bid

Bidding on Carbid is by approval. You ask for bidding access on the vehicle you are interested in, our team checks your request, and only then can you place a bid. We may decline a request or withdraw access without giving a reason.

Your bids are binding

Every bid you place is an offer to buy that vehicle at that price. Bids cannot be retracted or lowered. If you are the highest bidder when the auction closes and your bid is at or above the seller's reserve, you have committed to buy.

How an auction closes

An auction closes at its published end time. If a bid is placed in the final seconds, the clock extends by the number of seconds shown on the listing. This repeats for as long as bids keep arriving, so the highest bidder wins rather than the fastest connection.

If the highest bid does not reach the reserve, the vehicle does not sell. We may contact you afterwards to see whether a deal can still be reached.

An auction can also end early

A vehicle can be bought outright through a direct offer, before an auction opens or while it is running. We only accept an offer that beats the current bid by a margin, and accepting one does not end the auction on its own: bidding stays open until that buyer has paid an upfront and we have confirmed it.

Once we confirm it, the auction closes there and then and the vehicle is sold to the person who made the offer. If that happens we will tell you, and anything you have paid us upfront for that auction is reimbursed in full.

Reserve prices

Most auctions carry a reserve, which is the lowest price the seller will accept. The reserve is not published. A listing marked "no reserve" sells to the highest bidder whatever that turns out to be.

Deposits and payment

Where a deposit is required, the amount is shown on the listing. Deposits are refunded if you do not win and adjusted against the price if you do. Payment for the vehicle itself, and the transfer of ownership, are completed with our team outside the website.

Inspections and vehicle condition

Most vehicles are inspected by our team before they are listed, and the report is published on the listing. An inspection is a considered opinion on the day it was carried out. It is not a warranty, it is not a guarantee, and it does not cover faults that were not visible or that developed afterwards.

Some vehicles are listed directly by sellers we have approved to do so. Those listings say "not inspected by Carbid" and carry no report. You are buying those on the same basis as a private sale.

You are responsible for satisfying yourself about any vehicle before you bid, including by viewing it in person where that is offered.

Behaviour

We may block an account from an auction, or from the platform, if we believe it is bidding without intending to buy, bidding on its own vehicle, interfering with an auction or abusing our team.

Changes

We may change these terms. If a change is substantive we will publish a new version and ask you to agree again before you bid.
